Joseph Maez Arrested after Deadly Long Beach Accident on Stearns Street near Radnor Avenue

Long Beach, California (June 13, 2021) – Joseph Maez, 26, of Long Beach was arrested following a deadly pedestrian accident in Long Beach on Saturday night.
According to Long Beach police, a man in a wheelchair was trying to push a shopping cart across Stearns Street near Radnor Avenue in an unmarked crosswalk when he was hit by a westbound 2016 Honda Civic.
The accident took place at around 11 p.m. June 12.
Joseph Maez Arrested after Deadly Long Beach Pedestrian Crash
Medics responded to the accident and attempted life-saving measures on the victim but he succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The identity of the victim was not immediately released.
Maez, who was identified as the driver of the Honda, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter. He was booked on a $100,000 bail.
The incident is under investigation.
