Taft, California (June 13, 2021) – Jose Martinez Jr., 38, of Taft, was among two drivers who were killed early Thursday morning in a head-on crash in Taft, according to the Kern County Coroner’s Office.

The tragic wreck happened at around 4:09 a.m. Thursday, June 10, on Highway 119, just west of Sunridge Avenue.

Authorities said two vehicles collided head-on for an unknown reason on Highway 119.

The two drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.

The highway remained closed in both directions for an unknown period following the wreck.

The crash remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
