Vista Man Killed, Woman Seriously Injured in Head-On Crash on SR-78 in Ramona
28-Year-Old Vista Man Killed, 56-Year-Old Woman Airlifted after Ramona Crash on State Route 78 (Julian Road) near Magnolia Avenue

Ramona, California (January 8, 2021) – A Vista man was killed and a woman was seriously injured Thursday evening in a traffic accident in Ramona, according to a local news source.
The deadly crash occurred just before 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 7, on State Route 78 near Magnolia Avenue. State Route 78 is also known as Julian Road.
As per the report, a 1998 Honda Civic was heading westbound on State Route 78 when, for undetermined reasons, it veered into the opposite lane and collided head-on with an eastbound Ram pickup.
The driver of the Honda, only identified as a 28-year-old Vista man, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was withheld pending notification of his relatives.
A 56-year-old woman, who was the pickup driver, was airlifted to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido with major injuries.
The two drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision, authorities said. It remains unclear whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident.
State Route 78 between Third Street and Magnolia Avenue was closed for nearly two hours while the investigation took place.
The accident remains under investigation.
