Driver Dies, Another Arrested after Temecula Crash on Interstate 15 near Rancho California Road

Temecula, California (April 22, 2021) – One driver was killed and another was arrested after a three-vehicle accident early Thursday afternoon in Temecula, according to a report by the California Highway Patrol.
The fatal fiery crash happened at around 12:03 p.m. on the southbound side of Interstate 15, between Rancho California Road and the Overland Drive overcrossing.
As per the CHP report, Kevin May, 47, of Fontana, was driving a Hino bobtail box truck hauling furniture in the No. 4 lane at an unspecified speed when he failed to notice stopped traffic ahead and struck a Toyota Prius.
Following the collision, the Prius became pinned between the Hino and a big rig which had also stopped for traffic, the CHP said. Both the Prius and the box truck caught fire that was extinguished by responding firefighters.

Sadly, the driver of the Prius was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the victim has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.
The operator of the big rig, a 47-year-old Bloomington woman, did not suffer any injuries, the CHP said.
The CHP determined that May was under the influence of drugs at the time of the accident. He was transported to Inland Valley Medical Center for treatment of moderate injuries before being booked into jail on suspicion of DUI.
According to the CHP, the three drivers were sole occupants of their respective vehicles.
Both lanes of the interstate were closed due to the accident.
The crash remains under investigation.
