Tate Meintjes Killed in Bicycle Accident on Sand Canyon Road in Redlands
Tate Meintjes ID’d as Bicyclist Killed in Redlands Crash on Sand Canyon Road

Redlands, California (March 13, 2019) – The teenage bicyclist who was struck and killed by a vehicle Monday morning while training for a bicycle race in Redlands has been identified as Tate Meintjes, 19, of Reno, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The deadly accident occurred at about 10:52 a.m. Monday, March 11 on Sand Canyon Road.
The CHP said Meintjes and a group of riders were previewing a section of the route a day before the Redlands Bicycle Classic when a car hit him.
According to the CHP, Meintjes was following a Honda Accord that was travelling in the same direction when the Honda made a U-turn directly into the path him. Meintjes then slammed into the Honda.
First responders arrived at the scene and performed CPR on Meintjes. He was then taken to Loma Linda University Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
