Southern Humboldt Man Killed in Crash on Highway 36 in Carlotta

Carlotta, California (March 3, 2021) – A Southern Humboldt man was killed in a Saturday night traffic accident in Carlotta, authorities said.

The deadly accident occurred at about 9:37 p.m., on February 27, on Highway 36 near mile marker 15.50.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2006 Dodge 3500 pickup truck, driven by Andrew M. Harmon, crossed over the double yellow lines into the path of a 2006 BMW sedan and collided head-on.

Man Killed in Highway 36 Crash

Sadly, Southern Humboldt man who was in the BMW was taken to St. Joseph Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Harmon fled the scene but was later arrested in Rio Dell. He was taken to St. Joseph Hospital for treatment of minor injuries before being taken to jail. Harmon was booked on charges of DUI causing injury, hit-and-run causing injury and gross vehicular manslaughter.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
