28-Year-Old Santa Cruz Man Killed, 22-Year-Old Oakland Man Injured in Scotts Valley Crash on Highway 17 near Mount Hermon Road
Scotts Valley, California (June 5, 2021) – A 28-year-old man from Santa Cruz was killed in a Friday night traffic accident that left one other man injured in Scotts Valley, authorities said.
The deadly two-vehicle accident occurred on June 4, along northbound Highway 17 near Mount Hermon Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a Toyota Tacoma, driven by the Santa Cruz man, was headed northbound on the highway when it rear-ended a Camry as it sought to overtake it.
Following the collision, the Camry then lost control and began to spin out. The Tacoma rolled over and ejected the driver.

Sadly, the Santa Cruz man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Camry’s driver, the 22-year-old man from Oakland, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center for treatment.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
