Santa Barbara, California (January 18, 2019) – Santa Barbara police arrested a man who struck and injured a woman and an infant while he was being chased by the police in Santa Barbara on Thursday afternoon.

The incident took place at the intersection of Victoria and Santa Barbara streets just after noon on Thursday, January 17.

The Santa Barbara police officers were attempting to serve a search warrant and make an arrest at a residence in the 200 block of West Micheltorena Street when the suspect, Ricardo Sanchez, 36, fled in a vehicle.

The officers pursued Sanchez, who ran a red light at the intersection of Victoria and Santa Barbara streets, striking a woman who was pushing a stroller and a baby in it.

The two victims were both transported by ambulance to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital with unknown injuries. Their identities were not immediately released.

Sanchez reportedly fled on foot after the incident but was arrested shortly after. He faces multiple charges including felony hit-and-run with injury and reckless driving causing great bodily injury.

The crash is under investigation.
