Santa Barbara, California (October 25, 2019) – Three people are dead and another person critically injured following a three-vehicle collision on Highway 154 in Santa Barbara Friday evening, according to a police report.

The fatal crash took place at about 4:46 p.m. on Highway 154 at Cold Spring Bridge.

According to the investigators, a man was driving a black Camaro westbound on Highway 154 when it crossed over the double yellow lines and struck a Prius heading east. The impact caused the two vehicles to spin out, coming to rest on the shoulder. A Denali SUV that was driving behind the Prius then collided with the two cars.

A woman and two children who were in the Prius were declared dead at the scene. The driver of the Camaro was extricated from the vehicle and flown to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department. The names of the victims were withheld pending family notification.

The crash caused the Camaro and the Prius to Catch fire. The fire then spread to the nearby brush, burning down about 2-acres of vegetation.

The fire was put under control by 6:10 p.m., and the crews at the scene were mopping up.

Highway 154 was blocked in both directions following the collision, and drivers were turned around at Highway 192 in Santa Barbara and Highway 246 in Santa Ynez Valley.

The incident remains under investigation.
