Sheriff’s Deputy Injured in San Luis Obispo Car Accident on Highland Drive

San Luis Obispo, California (February 27, 2019) – A sheriff’s deputy was among two people injured in a two-car crash in San Luis Obispo on Tuesday morning, according to the San Luis Obispo Police Department.
The accident occurred at about 10:00 a.m. February 26, on Highland Drive and Santa Rosa Street.
As per the report, a woman driving a black Dodge Charger was turning left from southbound Santa Rosa Street onto Highland Drive to get into the Cal Poly Campus. She apparently turned in front of the deputy’s unmarked squad car, which was traveling northbound on Santa Rosa Street heading out of the city.
The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s deputy had to be extricated from the squad car following the collision. His condition remained unknown but he was transported by ambulance to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo.
The woman involved suffered minor injuries.
It’s currently unclear whether speed played a role in the accident. Both vehicles sustained major damage.
Highland Drive was closed on the Cal Poly Campus at California Boulevard.
The crash is under investigation.
