Mohammed Yacoobali, Samuel Sandgren Injured in Solo-Car Accident on I-280 in Los Altos Hills
Mohammed Yacoobali and Samuel Sandgren ID’d as 2 of 6 Injured in Los Altos Hills Crash on Interstate Highway 280 near Magdalena Road
Los Altos Hills, California (August 19, 2020) – Two of the six people who were injured Sunday evening in a crash that also left a teenager dead in Los Altos Hills have been identified as Mohammed Ismail Yacoobali, 19, Samuel Erik Sandgren, 19, both of Mill Valley.
The deadly collision was reported shortly before 5:00 p.m.Sunday, August 16, on northbound Interstate 280, just south of Magdalena Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2006 Toyota Sienna, driven by Yacoobali, was traveling in the northbound lane of the interstate when, for unknown reasons, it veered off the roadway and slammed into several trees. The vehicle then rolled over.
First responders arrived at the scene and located the Toyota with seven occupants.
Ali Modan, 17, of San Rafael, who was riding as a passenger in the Toyota, was declared dead at the scene.
Yacoobali, Sandgren and four other passengers were transported to area hospitals, two with minor injuries, two with moderate injuries and two with major injuries.
It remains unknown if intoxication played a role in the crash.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
