Placerville, California (March 2, 2019) – The man who was hit and killed by a vehicle on Thursday night in Placerville has been identified as Michael Tinonga, 33, of Cameron Park.

The fatal accident occurred at about 9:30 p.m. February 28, on Highway 50, just west of Ponderosa Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred when two different vehicles struck Tinonga as he walked in the middle of the highway’s southbound off ramp. The motorists told authorities that they were unable to avoid the impact.

Tinonga was walking in a westbound direction in the right lane of eastbound Highway 50. A Toyota Prius driven by William Creamer, 61, of Placerville, was the first to hit the victim. Next, a Toyota Scion driven by 63-year-old Richard Lopes of Sacramento, struck him in the left lane of the eastbound highway.

Tinonga was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Placerville CHP station

Both drivers remained at the scene after the incident.

The crash is under investigation.
