Matthew Hathaway ID’d as Motorcyclist Killed in Irwindale Crash on Foothill (210) Freeway
Irwindale, California (October 10, 2020) –Authorities have identified the motorcyclist who died in a traffic accident Friday afternoon in Irwindale as Matthew Hathaway, 30, of La Verne.
The deadly accident happened at about 2:40 p.m. Friday, October 9, on the eastbound Foothill (210) Freeway, according to California Highway Patrol.
The CHP said Hathaway was riding his 2019 Suzuki GSXR 750 eastbound on the 210 Freeway at an unsafe speed when he rear-ended a Tesla Model Y vehicle that was slowing down due to traffic ahead.
Hathaway was thrown off the bike upon the impact and landed in the number 3 lane, where he was hit by an oncoming big rig.

Hathaway died at the scene of the accident.
The roadway was closed due to the accident, and as of 6:10 p.m., the freeway was fully reopened.
It is undetermined whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision.
