Matteo Monica Severely Hurt in Temecula Accident on Highway 79 near Anza Road

Temecula, California (January 4, 2020) – Authorities have identified 50-year-old Matteo Monica of San Diego as one of the two persons severely injured early Friday morning in San Diego.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at around 12:25 a.m. Friday, January 3, on Highway 79 near Anza Road.
Officials said a 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer, driven by Monica, was heading eastbound on Highway 79 and was trying to pass a slower vehicle when it crossed over the double yellow lines and slammed head-on into a westbound 2004 Kia Rio operated by 59-year-old Becki Teague of Aguanga.
The impact caused the Mitsubishi to catch fire.
Pollete, a Kia front seat passenger, suffered fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene.
Teague was taken to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar where she was listed in a critical condition. Monica also sustained serious injuries and was taken to Inland Valley Medical Center for treatment.
The collision remains under investigation.
