Maria Padilla ID’d as Woman Killed in Oceanside Car Accident at Rancho Del Oro Drive and Mesa Drive

Oceanside, California (July 20, 2020) – The woman who died five days after a traffic accident at an intersection in Oceanside has been identified as Maria Padilla, 82, of Oceanside.
The crash involving two vehicles happened at about 4:25 p.m. Monday, July 13, at the intersection of Rancho Del Oro Drive and Mesa Drive.
Authorities said one vehicle was traveling on the roadway when its driver allegedly ran a red light at the Oceanside intersection and broadsided another vehicle that had a green light to turn.
After the impact, the vehicle that caused the collision overturned and came to rest on its roof.
Emergency crews responded to the scene and extricated two occupants who were pinned inside one car and one person trapped in the other vehicle.
A total of five people, including Padilla, were injured in the crash, authorities said. Padilla was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital-La Jolla, where she succumbed to her injuries on Saturday, July 18.
The other four patients were also taken to area hospitals for treatment. Their conditions were not immediately available.
The intersection was blocked for nearly four hours but was reopened by 8:30 p.m.
Authorities believed that the vehicle that failed to stop at a stop sign developed mechanical problems prior to the accident.
The Oceanside Police is investigating the crash.
