Los Gatos, California (June 5, 2021) – A man was killed and two other people were hospitalized Saturday morning following a three-vehicle crash in Los Gatos, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The tragic wreck, which involved a septic tanker truck and two vehicles, happened at around 8:10 a.m. on Highway 17 near Black Road.

CHP said the septic tanker was traveling down Black Road, which runs perpendicular to Highway 17 when the truck’s brakes failed and careened across a frontage road.

The septic tanker then crashed through a concrete barrier and overturned on the highway, where it slammed into a Mercedes-Benz and a pickup truck heading southbound.

Deadly Three-Vehicle Crash in Los Gatos

The driver of the pickup truck, only identified as a San Jose man, aged 33 or 34, died at the scene. His name has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.

The drivers of the Mercedes and the septic tanker sustained minor injuries and were transported to a hospital.

All southbound lanes of Highway 17 were shut down in both directions at Highway 9 for several hours while hazmat crews clear a spill from the septic tanker.

No other details were immediately available.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
