Calaveras County, California (June 5, 2021) – A head-on collision has claimed the life of a 50-year-old woman Saturday morning in the San Andreas area, according to a California Highway Patrol report.

The deadly two-vehicle crash occurred at about 7:30 a.m. on Highway 49 between O Connell Lane and Cement Road.

A Dodge Ram pickup was traveling on Highway 49 when, for undetermined reasons, the driver allowed the vehicle to cross over the double-yellow lines into the opposite lane, where it collided head-on with a Nissan Altima sedan, the CHP report states.

The impact caused the Dodge to overturn. The sedan obtained major front-end damage in the crash.

A 50-year-old woman died as a result of the crash. Her name has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.

No other injuries were immediately reported.

Highway 49 was closed while the investigation and cleanup took place.

The accident remains under investigation.
