Calaveras County, California (April 20, 2021) – The driver of a motorcycle and their passenger were injured Saturday afternoon in a traffic collision in Calaveras County, according to authorities.

The crash happened at around 2:40 p.m. Saturday, April 17, on Highway 26, just east of Double Springs Road.

The authorities said Leslie Simmerman, 61, of Manteca, was riding a 2017 Harley Davidson westbound on Highway 26 when he crossed over the double yellow line at a right-hand curve towards an eastbound 2020 Ford Transit Van, driven by Gaberiel Kinney, 30, of Modesto.

Kinney swerved to the right in an attempt to avoid the collision, but the van was hit on the left side by the motorcycle.

Both Simmerman and his passenger, Lisa Gumm, 54, of Stockton, were airlifted to Modesto hospitals for treatment of their injuries. Their current condition was not available.

Kinney did not suffer any injuries.

No additional information about the accident was provided.

The collision remains under investigation.
