32-Year-Old Gilroy Woman Dies in Prunedale Crash on Highway 156 at Cathedral Oak Road

Prunedale, California (April 20, 2021) – A single-vehicle traffic accident has claimed the life of a 32-year-old Gilroy woman Monday morning in Prunedale, the California Highway Patrol said.
The deadly crash happened at about 6:30 a.m. Monday, April 19, on Highway 156 at Cathedral Oak Road near Castroville.
According to the CHP, the woman was driving westbound on Highway 156 when, for undetermined reasons, she lost control of her 2007 Mazda 3 sedan, which veered off the road onto the north shoulder and struck a tree.
As a result of the crash, the vehicle came to a stop on its wheels on a grassy embankment, the CHP said.

Firefighters along with the paramedics responded to the scene and extricated the woman who was trapped inside the wrecked vehicle. Sadly, she was declared deceased at the scene. Her name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
It was not immediately clear whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident.
An investigation into the collision is ongoing.
