Oakdale, California (February 11, 2020) – The pedestrian who was struck and killed by an alleged DUI hit-and-run driver in the area of Oakdale Monday evening has been identified by the authorities.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal pedestrian crash took place at about 6:45 p.m. on February 10, on Highway 120.

As per the report, John Hughes, 61, of Newman was walking north on the side of the highway when he was struck by a northbound Chevrolet pickup driven by 28-year-old Matthew Keith.

Keith did not stop to render aid to the victim. Reportedly, the suspect contacted the police at around 9:30 p.m. after he heard of the crash on social media.

Hughes died at a local hospital where he was admitted after the wreck. 

Police arrested Keith on suspicion of DUI and hit-and-run.

The investigation is ongoing.
