Huntington Beach, California (May 27, 2021) – The Orange County Coroner’s Office has identified the bicyclist who died after being struck by a suspected drunken driver Thursday afternoon in Huntington Beach as  John Crouch, 68, of Huntington Beach.

The deadly accident happened at around 1:35 p.m. on Pacific Coast Highway at 1st Street.

Authorities said Crouch was riding his bicycle across Pacific Coast Highway at 1st Avenue when, for unknown reasons, he was hit by a silver Toyota Yaris that was traveling westbound.

Man Killed in Huntington Beach Bicycle DUI Accident

First responders arrived at the scene and found Crouch unresponsive. He was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injures despite life-saving measures performed by the medical personnel.

The Toyota driver, only identified as a 23-year-old Bloomington man, stopped at the scene and cooperated with the police. Authorities determined that the man was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the accident. He was ultimately arrested on suspicion of DUI.

The accident remains under investigation.
