Irwindale, California (March 27, 2021) – A bicyclist died after being struck by a hit-and-run driver at an intersection in Irwindale early Saturday morning, according to a local news source.

The deadly accident was reported at about 1:21 a.m. at the intersection of  Foothill Boulevard and Huntington Drive.

Authorities said a vehicle was traveling eastbound on Huntington Drive when it hit the bicyclist.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene and found the cyclist lying down in the roadway. Sadly, the victim was declared deceased at the scene.

The involved driver fled the scene after the accident but was later located in the area of Francisquito and Sunset avenues. The suspect, Adrian Ortega, 21, of La Puente, was ultimately arrested and booked into jail on charges,  including felony vehicular manslaughter, felony drunk driving, and felony hit-and-run.

His bail was set at $100,000.

The intersection of  Foothill Boulevard and Huntington Drive was blocked between Irwindale Avenue and Encanto Parkway due to the accident.

The name of the deceased bicyclist has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.

Further details about the accident were not immediately available.

The crash remains under investigation.
