Indio, California (June 17, 2021) – One person was severely hurt in a Thursday morning traffic collision involving a big rig that happened in Indio, the California Highway Patrol said.

The accident occurred at around 7:12 a.m. on westbound Interstate 10 near Summit Road.

CHP said a car was, for unknown reasons, stopped in a traffic lane when a big rig loaded with 13,000 lbs of cargo crashed into it at full speed.

Both vehicles ended up off the roadway after the impact, and the car overturned in the center divider.

The female driver of the car was found unconscious in the vehicle.

The report said that driver suffered severe injuries in the crash. An ambulance was requested to the scene to take the patient to the hospital.

Authorities are investigating to establish the cause of the collision.
