Howard Kritzer ID’d as Man Killed in University Heights Crash on Texas Street near Monroe Avenue

San Diego, California (May 25, 2021) – The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the man who died Thursday evening in a collision involving a Metropolitan Transit System bus in University Heights as Howard David Kritzer, 60, of San Diego.
At around 6:20 p.m. May 20, police said Kritzer was driving a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu northbound on Texas Street when, for unknown reasons, he allowed the vehicle to drift into the southbound lane, where it collided head-on with the oncoming bus.

Firefighters along with the paramedics responded to the scene and extricated Kritzer from the wrecked vehicle. He was then transported to Scripps Mercy Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries despite the life-saving effort performed by the medical personnel.
A passenger on the bus, a 59-year-old woman, was also taken to the hospital for treatment of a bruise to her head.
No further details about the crash were immediately provided.
The San Diego Police Department is investigating the incident.
