Gilberto Moralez Arrested after West Covina Crash at Vine Avenue and Hollenbeck Avenue

West Covina, California (June 3, 2021) – Gilberto Moralez, 24, of Pomona, has been arrested following a DUI crash that killed an 18-year-old driver Saturday night in West Covina.
The tragic wreck occurred at around 11:15 p.m. Saturday, May 29, at the intersection of Vine and Hollenbeck avenues.
Authorities said Moralez was driving a dark-colored Honda Accord westbound on Vine Avenue when he allegedly ran a red light at the intersection and t-boned a silver Honda Accord that was traveling southbound on Hollenbeck Avenue, driven by Kerry Welsh, 19, of Glendora.
According to the report, Welsh was on her way to pick up her younger sister from a birthday party when the accident occurred.
Deadly West Covina Car Crash Saturday
Welsh was transported to a local hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries the next day.
Moralez, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was arrested and booked at the West Covina jail on suspicion of DUI. His bail was set at $100,000.
The crash remains under investigation.
