1 Killed, Irvine Man Arrested after Garden Grove Traffic Crash on 22 Freeway at Springdale Street
Garden Grove, California (June 9, 2019) – A 26-year-old Irvine man was arrested after a crash that killed a U.S. mail driver early Sunday morning in Garden Grove, according to the CHP.
The deadly crash occurred shortly before 4:00 a.m. on the westbound 22 Freeway at Springdale Street.
CHP said an Irvine man was driving a passenger vehicle when he lost control and swerved to the right, coming to a stop facing the wrong way.
The motorist then got out of the vehicle and was standing at the side when, shortly after, a tractor trailer crashed into the stopped passenger car.
The impact caused the big rig to strike the center median, after which it overturned and caught fire. The cargo was strewn all over the northbound lanes of SR 22.
Irvine Driver Arrested after Fatal Big Rig Accident in Garden Grove
The big rig driver, who has not been identified pending notification of family, died in the accident.
The Driver of the passenger vehicle was arrested on suspicion of DUI. There was no update on the driver’s condition.
The crash caused the closure of all westbound and eastbound lanes of SR 22.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
