Modoc County, California (June 21, 2021) – The Modoc County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man who died when a small plane crashed Sunday morning in Modoc County as Frank Randell Bethel, 65, of Modoc County.

The crash was reported at around 9:08 a.m. Sunday, June 20 near a ranch in Likely, a town which is approximately 15 miles south of Alturas on Highway 395.

The plane was taking off from a field at the ranch when it reportedly failed to get altitude and then went down.

Fatal Plane Crash near Likely in Modoc County

Bethel, who was a passenger in the plane, died in the crash.

The pilot, also a 65-year old man from Alturas, Modoc County, was airlifted to Mercy Medical Center in Redding with major injuries.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Modoc County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the accident.
