Fidel Lopez Arrested after San Luis Obispo County DUI Crash on Highway 46 and Highway 41

San Luis Obispo County, California (October 27, 2020) – Fidel Martinez Lopez, 70, of San Miguel, was arrested following a traffic crash that happened Sunday night near the Cholame ‘Y’ in San Luis Obispo County.
The crash happened at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday, October 25, on Highway 46 and Highway 41.
As per the CHP report, Fidel Martinez Lopez, 70, of San Miguel, was driving his 1997 Ford F-150 eastbound at an unknown speed when he tried to turn left onto northbound Highway 41 at the Cholame Y.
For an unknown reason, Lopez’s vehicle collided head-on with a 2008 Jeep Wrangler that was heading westbound on Highway 46 at about 55 miles per hour, driven by Dickerson.
The force of the impact caused the Jeep to spin to the right shoulder of Highway 46.
Dickerson sustained moderate injuries while his passenger, Kimberly Valois, 57, suffered minor injuries. Both patients were taken to Twin Cities Community Hospital in Templeton for treatment.
Lopez sustained major injuries and was transported to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo.
Authorities determined that Lopez was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
The accident remains under investigation.
