Felix Pena ID’d as Man Killed in Sherman Oaks Crash on Ventura (101) Freeway near Van Nuys Boulevard Exit
Sherman Oaks, California (April 26, 2021) – Authorities have identified the man who died early Saturday morning in a multi-vehicle accident in Sherman Oaks as Felix Hernandez Pena, 50, of Santa Maria.
The tragic accident occurred at around 12:08 a.m. Saturday, April 24, on the eastbound side of Ventura (101) Freeway, just east of Van Nuys Boulevard.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2008 Honda, driven by a 20-year-old Los Angeles woman, was headed eastbound on Van Nuys Boulevard when it rear-ended a 2019 Isuzu box truck.
Following the collision, both vehicles drifted to the center divider wall. The Isuzu entered the westbound lanes, where it was struck by a 2017 Honda driven by a Reseda woman.
A 2016 Dodge, also in the westbound lanes, was struck by concrete debris caused by the destruction of the center divider wall.
Pena, who was a passenger in the Isuzu, was pronounced dead at the scene. Another passenger in the Isuzu, a 15-year-old boy, was taken to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the 2017 Honda was rushed to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center with major injuries.
The wreck prompted a SigAlert closing the Nos. 1, 2, and 3 lanes in both directions for an unknown duration.
