Long Beach, California (January 8, 2019)  – 79-year-old Elias Sanchez of Long Beach has been identified as the pedestrian killed in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident Monday night in the area of Long Beach, according to a local news source.

The accident was reported at 7:50 p.m. Monday, January 7 in the 5900 block of North Paramount Boulevard.

As per the report, Sanchez was crossing South Street at Paramount Boulevard in a crosswalk with a green traffic signal when he was struck by a white older-model cargo van. The van was heading westbound on South Street, and as it turned onto northbound Paramount Boulevard, it hit Sanchez.

The van driver did not stop to render aid, and he dragged the victim about 900 feet.

A second driver reportedly did not see the pedestrian in the roadway, and he did not swerve in time to avoid hitting Sanchez. He stopped after the collision and called for help.

Firefighters along with paramedics responded to the scene and declared Sanchez dead at the scene.

Officials described the hit-and-run vehicle as a white 1970s to 1980s Chevrolet or Ford cargo/utility van with green writing on the rear and a ladder on the rear doors similar to one seen at the back of recreation cars.

An investigation is ongoing. Witnesses are asked to call (562) 570-7355, or Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
