At Least 1 Killed in 8 Freeway Crash near Dogwood Road in El Centro

El Centro, California (January 8, 2019) – At least one person died in a head-on collision that transpired Monday night on 8 Freeway in El Centro, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The wrong-way crash happened at about 9:40 p.m. on the eastbound lanes just west of Dogwood Road on-ramp.

As per the report, a westbound female driver reported of a U-Haul truck that made a U-turn and started traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes. Moments later, a head-on crash was reported involving the U-Haul truck and a Honda car.

One of the vehicles caught on fire after the impact.

Authorities responded to the scene and confirmed that at least one person died in the collision.

Both vehicles were towed away from the crash scene.

CHP is investigating the accident.
