El Cajon, CA: Major Injury Traffic Collision on Interstate 8
2 Injured, 1 Seriously, in El Cajon Crash on Interstate 8 near First Street

El Cajon, California (June 18, 2021) – Two people were injured, one seriously, after a traffic crash in El Cajon Thursday evening, according to authorities.
The California Highway Patrol said the major injury collision occurred at around 4:50 p.m. Thursday, June 17, on the westbound side of Interstate 8 near First Street.
According to the CHP, a 1994 Chevrolet Astrovan was traveling westbound on Interstate 8 when the driver failed to slow down for the stopped traffic ahead and rear-ended a 2001 Toyota Tacoma pickup.
After the collision, the pickup went off the road and crashed through a perimeter fence. It then rolled down into a concrete flood canal and landed on its roof.
Major Injury Crash in El Cajon
The driver of the pickup, a 64-year-old Boulevard man, sustained major injuries and was transported to Sharp Memorial Hospital.
The minivan driver, a 20-year-old El Cajon man, was treated at the crash site for minor injuries.
CHP said neither alcohol nor drugs were suspected factors in the collision.
The crash remains under investigation.
