Corona, CA: Passenger Killed after Van Tire Loose Hits Porsche on 91 Freeway

Corona, California (April 28, 2021) – A passenger died after a van lost a tire and struck a car Sunday evening in Corona, according to California Highway Patrol.

The deadly accident happened at about 5:00 p.m. Sunday, April 25, on 91 Freeway, just west of Lincoln Avenue.

The CHP said a green Ford Econoline van was traveling eastbound on the 91 Freeway when the front wheel on the left side of the vehicle came off and bounced over the center divider and express lanes.

The tire then crashed through the front windshield of a silver Porsche 911 coupe.

Emergency crews responded to the scene and found the person riding in the front passenger seat of the Porsche unresponsive.

The passenger was taken to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. His name has not been disclosed pending notification of family.

The Porsche’s driver and the occupants of the Ford were not injured

The accident remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the CHP accident investigators at 951-637-8000.
