Eureka, California (November 12, 2020) – A Eureka Police Department officer was injured in a car crash in Eureka on Wednesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The accident happened at about 10 a.m. on Highway 101 near Wabash Avenue.

Officer Cameroon Hooks and other officers were pursuing an assault suspect on Highway 101.

The high speed chase ended in a crash that left Officer Hooks with moderate injuries. Hooks was flown to an out-of-area trauma hospital and is awaiting surgery.

A woman in another car was hospitalized with unknown injuries.

The suspect, 35-year-old Michael Caleb Reed, was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence, evading arrest, felony evading causing injury, resisting arrest, and parole violation.

No additional information about the accident was provided.

The CHP is investigating the cause of the accident.
