55-Year-Old Man Killed in Bakersfield Big Rig Accident on Highway 99 near Highway 166
Bakersfield, California (August 24, 2020) – Authorities are investigating a Saturday night big rig accident that killed a 55-year-old man in Bakersfield.
At about 11:00 p.m., on August 22, the California Highway Patrol responded to the deadly accident on Highway 99 south of Highway 166.
The CHP said a 2007 Mercedes pulled to the right shoulder of the highway and then abruptly accelerated to the left where it collided with a tractor-trailer.
Following the accident, the Mercedes came to a stop in the center median. The tractor-trailer stopped in the number one and two lanes.

The 55-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
A woman who was also involved in the accident was transported to Kern Medical in unknown condition.
Intoxication was suspected of having played a role in the mishap.
Several lanes of the highway were closed for an unknown period due to the collision.
The crash remains under investigation.
