Bakersfield, California (March 11, 2020) – A male bicyclist was struck and killed by a vehicle on Tuesday morning in Bakersfield, a local news source reported.

The fatal bicycle crash was reported at approximately 11:41 a.m. in the area of Union Avenue and Columbus Street.

The accident involved a bicycle and a car driven by a male party westbound on Columbus Street approaching Union Avenue. The initial report indicated that the driver, who fell asleep and eventually woke up, made an abrupt movement to avoid traffic as he entered the intersection against a red light. The car then went onto the sidewalk and hit the bicyclist who was waiting at the corner.

Due to the impact, another car collided with the rear of the vehicle that struck the victim.

The rider died in the accident.

Meanwhile, the identity of the deceased has not yet been released to this time.

The operator of the car that hit the victim remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
