Ukiah, California (June 19, 2020) – A 6-year-old boy was seriously injured late Thursday night in an alleged DUI crash on Highway 101 in Ukiah, according to the California Highway Patrol.  

The accident occurred at about 10:45 p.m. Thursday, June 18 on southbound Highway 101, just south of the Talmage Road overpass.  

The CHP said a 2004 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, driven by Arnaldo Ramirez, 33, of Ukiah, was traveling southbound on Highway 101 when it struck the front end of a 2016 Jeep Wrangler that was also heading southbound.  

The force of the impact caused the pickup truck to roll over on the right-hand shoulder of the highway just south of the Talmage Road on-ramp and land on its roof.  

A 6-year-old boy, who was a passenger in the pickup truck, was taken to Adventist Health Ukiah Valley with a broken arm and a concussion. His condition at this time was not disclosed.   

The driver of the Wrangler, a 47-year-old Redwood Valley woman, was not injured in the crash.

Ramirez was also transported to AHUV to be treated for major injuries. He was eventually arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and endangering a child.  

An investigation into the accident is underway.
