Man Killed, Several Injured in Nipomo Crash on Highway 101 near Tefft Street

Nipomo, California (March 28, 2021) – Authorities are investigating a Saturday night alleged DUI accident that killed a man and left several others injured in Nipomo.
The deadly accident occurred at about 11:00 p.m., on March 27, on northbound Highway 101, just south of Tefft Street.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a Chevy Tahoe, driven by Ernesto Nava Herrera, 24, was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes when it collided with a Honda CR-V, driven by Jose Cruz Jr., 44, of San Jose.
Man Killed in Highway 101 Crash
A male passenger in the CR-V, who was ejected from the vehicle, sustained major injuries in the accident and was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Jose Cruz Jr. and a female passenger were critically injured and were taken to Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria for treatment.
Herrera allegedly fled the scene on foot but was later arrested on felony manslaughter, DUI and hit-and-run charges. He was taken to French Hospital in San Luis Obispo.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
