Weott, California (January 18, 2019) – A Redway man was injured in a fatal two-vehicle collision that left one person dead near Weott on Thursday afternoon, according to the CHP.

The wreck occurred at about 4:30 p.m. January 17 on Highway 101 near the Weott offramp.

CHP said Zechariah Alailefaleula, 20, of Redway, was driving a 2010 Toyota Tundra northbound on US 101 when he veered into the southbound side and collided with a 2017 Toyota Camry.

Both drivers were taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital, where the Camry driver was pronounced deceased. Alailefaleula was hospitalized with moderate injuries.

The identity of the deceased victim was not immediately released.

CHP said intoxication was not suspected to be a factor in the incident.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
