Xue Thao Killed in DUI Crash on Highway 3 in Trinity County
Xue Thao ID’d as Man Killed in Trinity County Collision on Highway 3 near Rourke Ranch Road

Trinity County, California (May 12, 2021) – Authorities have identified the man who died Monday night following a traffic accident south of Hayfork in Trinity County as Xue Thao, 34, of Hayfork.
The deadly crash occurred at about midnight on Monday, May 10, on Highway 3, just south of Rourke Ranch Road.
CHP said Thao was driving a 2006 Honda southbound on the highway when he allowed the vehicle to drift across the center divider into the northbound lane and collided head-on with an oncoming 2017 Toyota driven by Irais Hernandez-Mateo, 26, of Santa Cruz.
Thao was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hernandez-Mateo sustained major injuries while his 5-year-old son had minor injuries. Both were airlifted to Mercy Medical Center in Redding.
DUI was suspected to be a factor in the accident.
No additional information about the accident was provided.
The CHP is investigating the cause of the accident.
