Burlingame, California (February 9, 2021) – A head-on collision has claimed the life of a 68-year-old San Francisco man Monday morning in Burlingame, authorities said.

At around 6:45 a.m. Monday, February 8, emergency personnel responded to the northbound Highway 101, just south of the Broadway exit for a report of a two-car accident.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2005 gray Mazda MPV minivan was heading southbound in the northbound lane of Highway 101 when it collided head-on with a Kenworth dump truck that was traveling in the No. 4 lane.

The driver of the Mazda, whose name has not been disclosed pending family notification, was declared dead at the scene.

The operator of the Kenworth, a 33-year-old Hayward man, was not hurt.

It was not immediately clear whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision.
