Woman Killed, Man Hospitalized after Bakersfield Crash on Taft Highway and Old River Road

Bakersfield, California (June 8, 2021) – A woman was killed and a man was seriously injured when a pickup truck collided with a semi-truck Tuesday afternoon at an intersection in Bakersfield, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The tragic wreck occurred at around 1:56 p.m. on Taft Highway and Old River Road.
According to the CHP, the woman was driving a Tan GMC Sierra pickup truck northbound on Old River Road when, for an undetermined reason, she allowed the vehicle to drift onto Taft Highway, where it collided with a big rig that was traveling eastbound.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her husband, who was a passenger in the pickup, was transported to a hospital for treatment of major injuries.
The occupants of the semi-truck were uninjured.
Taft Highway was closed in both directions due to the crash.
The accident remains under investigation.
