Modesto, California (January 16, 2021) – A woman was hit and killed by a vehicle on Friday night in Modesto, authorities said.

The deadly pedestrian accident happened at about 10:47 p.m., on January 15, on Carpenter Road, just south of Maze Boulevard. Maze Boulevard is also known as State Route 132.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a Toyota Camry, driven by David Placencia, 63, of Modesto, was headed southbound on the roadway at about 45 mph when it struck the female pedestrian.

Placencia allegedly noticed the woman standing in the middle of his lane but was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting her, the officials said.

Sadly, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

Drugs or alcohol were not suspected of having played a role in the accident.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
