Wendy Gutierrez Injured in DUI Crash at Shaffer Road and Eucalyptus Avenue in Merced County
Wendy Gutierrez among 3 Injured in Merced County Car Accident at Shaffer Road and Eucalyptus Avenue; Alejandro Mandujano Arrested
Merced County, California (June 21, 2020) – Wendy Bojorquez Gutierrez was among three people who were injured early Sunday morning in an alleged DUI car accident at an intersection in Merced County, the California Highway Patrol reported.
At about 2:30 a.m., emergency personnel responded to the area of Shaffer Road and Eucalyptus Avenue northeast of Winton for a report of a traffic collision involving two vehicles.
According to the CHP, a Dodge Durango, driven by Gutierrez, was heading northbound on Shaffer Road at approximately 50 miles per hour, towards the intersection with Eucalyptus Avenue when it struck the passenger side of a Honda Accord, driven by Alejandro Cortes Mandujano, who was traveling eastbound on Eucalyptus approaching the intersection.
It remains unknown whether the Mandujano ran a red light, or stopped and pulled out into the intersection into the path of the Gutierrez’s vehicle.
Mandujano was partially ejected through the front windshield of the vehicle and his right front female passenger was partially ejected out of the opened passenger door.
Mandujano and the passenger had to be extricated from the wreckage by firefighters. Gutierrez and a right-front passenger in the Dodge, Nelson Heredia, were able to get out and were sitting on the driver’s side of the vehicle.
Alejandro Mandujano Arrested For DUI After Crash at Shaffer Road and Eucalyptus Avenue in Merced County
Both Mandujano and his passenger sustained major injuries in the crash. Mandujano was airlifted to a Modesto hospital while the passenger was flown to a different Modesto hospital.
Mandujano was found to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. He will be booked into Merced County Jail on suspicion DUI after being medically cleared, authorities said.
The accident remains under investigation.
