22-Year-Old Vista Man Killed in San Marcos Crash on Highway 78

San Marcos, California (January 7, 2021) – A 22-year-old Vista man was hit and killed by a vehicle on Thursday morning in San Marcos, authorities said.
The deadly accident happened at about 6:00 a.m. on Highway 78 near Palomar College.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2007 Ford Focus, driven by the 22-year-old man, was headed eastbound on the highway when it struck a metal guardrail, drifted off the roadway, and plunged down an embankment.
The Vista man then got out of the vehicle, climbed back up the slope, and walked onto the freeway. Unfortunately, he was struck by an eastbound 2017 Toyota Camry.

Sadly, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Traffic on the roadway was stopped for an unknown period due to the accident.
The crash remains under investigation.
