Fresno County, California (January 7, 2021) – One of the five people who were killed Tuesday night in a head-on collision near Firebaugh in Fresno County has been identified as Martha Colin, 52. She was a longtime Press Democrat carrier from Sonoma, authorities said.

The deadly fiery crash happened at about 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, January 5 on Interstate 5 near Panoche Road exit, according to the California Highway Patrol,

The CHP said a pickup truck carrying Colin, her three grandchildren, and her daughter-in-law was heading northbound on Interstate 5 when, for undetermined reasons, it crossed over the center median into the opposite lane and collided head-on with a southbound big rig.

Both vehicles caught fire after the impact.

Deadly Head-On Crash on Interstate 5 in Fresno County

All five people in the pickup truck were killed in the crash. The driver of the big rig sustained minor injuries.

The southbound lanes were closed while the investigation and cleanup took place. It is undetermined whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.

The accident remains under investigation.
