Man Killed in Visalia Car Accident on Avenue 272 near Mooney Sunday afternoon

Visalia, California (May 6, 2019) – A man was killed Sunday afternoon in an alleged DUI crash in Visalia, police said.
The tragic wreck happened at about 4:00 p.m. Sunday, May 5 on Avenue 272 near Mooney.
According to the police, a 21-year-old man Visalia was driving a 2001 gray Acura on Avenue 272 when he tried to cross Mooney and went into the path of a 2004 Chevy truck, which was heading northbound on Mooney.
One man was pinned in the rear passenger seat of the Acura after the impact.

Firefighters responded to the scene and extricated the man from the wreckage. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been disclosed, but police said he was in his 20’s and lived in Visalia.
The Acura driver was arrested and booked into the Tulare County Jail for driving under the influence of drugs. Authorities said there were other passengers in the Acura, but they fled the scene before investigators got there.
The driver of the Chevy truck stopped at the scene and complied with investigators.
Police closed a stretch of Mooney Boulevard for six hours during the investigation.
