Pinole, California (January 8, 2021) –Authorities are investigating a Friday morning wrong-way crash that killed a 46-year-old Vallejo man and left two other parties injured in Pinole.

The deadly two-vehicle accident happened at about 12:30 a.m. on Interstate Highway 80 just west of Pinole Valley Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2015 Toyota Camry, driven by a 78-year-old woman, was headed westbound in the eastbound lanes when it collided with a silver 2007 Ford Focus, operated by the 46-year-old man.

The Ford Focus was traveling eastbound near Pinole Valley Road, the officials said.

The 46-year-old man, who was extricated from the wreckage, was transported to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, where he was pronounced dead.

A 39-year-old passenger in the Ford Focus, also from Vallejo, suffered minor injuries.

The 78-year-old woman, who had been reported missing out of Concord, was transported to John Muir with non-life-threatening injuries.
