Redwood Valley Woman, 2 Children Suffers Major Injuries in Ukiah Car Accident on Highway 20 near Reclamation Road

Ukiah, California (October 6, 2020) – A woman and two juveniles were seriously injured Monday evening in a rear-end collision on a highway in Ukiah, according to a California Highway Patrol report.
The major-injury collision happened at about 5:55 p.m. Monday, October 5, on Highway 20 near Reclamation Road.
As per the CHP report, a 2002 Dodge Ram pickup truck was heading eastbound on Highway 20 when it crashed into the back of a 2018 Kia Soul that was stopped due to a previous accident near Pomo Way.
The Kia then struck a Honda Accord in front of it. After the impact, the Kia veered into the westbound lane and collided with a Ford Explorer while the Honda crashed into a Chevrolet HHR.
The Kia driver, a 33-year-old Redwood Valley woman, and her two passengers, a 3-year-old and a 6-year-old, sustained major injuries in the crash. The woman was taken to a Lake County hospital, the 6-year-old was airlifted to U.C. Davis and the 3-year-old was flown to Oakland Children’s Hospital.
The driver of the Ford Explorer and her 1-year-old passenger were transported to a local hospital for precautionary reasons.
The driver of the Dodge, a 39-year-old Lucerne man, and the Chevrolet driver were not injured in the accident.
Alcohol or drugs were not considered a factor in the accident, but authorities said distracted driving played a role in the crash.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
