Uber has announced plans to offers its drivers 14 days of paid sick leave if they contract the deadly coronavirus. However, the company did not disclose how much money the drivers and delivery people who need to take sick leave will receive.

The San Francisco-based company has also established a team that will support public health officials responding to the outbreak. The latest developments come amid reports that Uber is considering suspending the accounts of riders and drivers who have come in contact with COVID-19.

Uber May Suspend the Accounts of Users Exposed to Coronavirus

An Uber driver in London was suspended after transporting a coronavirus patient to a hospital. Hundreds of drivers’ accounts in Mexico were suspended but were later reinstated.

In a statement, Uber said it is working to implement the new policy worldwide quickly.

The drivers, who are considered independent contractors, had complained about the lack of health benefits and paid sick time and the massive drop in ridership since the outbreak started.
